Digital Assets & Blockchain, Web3 and FashionTech 
 

Digital fashion use cases are rapidly expanding.  I suspect over the next 3-5 years, there will be a massive 2earn, ownership economy developed and thriving alongside the new business model blockchain technology affords meta-commerce and digital fashion. 

 

Today, there are five main use cases for digital fashion (NFT & non-NFT):

1.    Speculative investment – On-chain consumer products such as digital fashion are very different from on-chain financial instruments; however, both can be used as speculative investments similar to their physical counterparts. Hermes handbags or traded physical  baseball cards are very different from stocks, and yet both are often purchased as speculative assets. Digital fashion, both on and off chain have without the physical use capability. Examples:

·      on-chain assets: UNXD

·      off-chain assets/ centralized platform: StockX, Tradesy - Capital markets/ secondary trade/purchase in physical consumer products                already exists off-chain sneakers, watches, handbags, wine, collectibles like art and baseball cards

 

2.    Digital tailoring – superimposed, by human or AI, on existing content such as photos/images, videos or PFPs. Examples:

3.    AR wearables – digital fashion augmented in real time onto human Examples:

·      on-chain assets: DRESSX, Zero10, Tribute Brands

·      off-chain assets/ centralized platform: filters on Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, Zoom 

 

4.    VR wearables – digital fashion “skins” on virtual avatars in virtual platforms and games. Examples:

·      on-chain: Decentraland, Sandbox, Wilder World, Solospace

·      off-chain: Roblox, Fortnite, VR Chat, Horizon Worlds, Spatial 

·      mixed on & off-chain: Instagram Meta avatar 

 

5.    Provenance / Ownership

      Digital fashion unlocks provable in real time provenance and ownership 

·      Fashion industry supply chain – Example: Arianee, Aura

·      Social signaling or ‘digital flex’
